It Started with a Look at the Coffee Table
We spent years auditing what entered our home.
We were reading ingredient labels at the grocery store and swapping conventional produce for organic harvests. We switched our skincare, cleaned up our laundry detergents, and built a living space we felt genuinely good about.
Then, one evening, we struck a match.
Sitting on the coffee table was a standard scented candle. The label promised a "natural wax blend" with "botanical notes." But we realized that "natural" wax came from pesticide-heavy industrial monocultures, bleached and processed with synthetic solvents. The fragrance was a black box, its contents completely unknown (and potentially dangerous) to us.
We had spent years curating an organic respite, only to leave one glaring blind spot in the center of the room.

We didn't start The Organic Candle Co. to invent another luxury aroma—we started it to hold home fragrance to the same standard as the food on our plates.

Our Standard: Certified Organic Integrity
We source our ingredients directly from certified organic suppliers and pour candles by hand in our Longmont, Colorado workshop.
- Certified Organic Wax: a creamy and high-performing blend, harvested from organic and sustainable practices. Absolutely no synthetic fertilizers nor pesticides. Certified organic by the Soil Association.
- Certified Organic Botanicals: pure distilled organic essential oils and plant extracts. Scents derived directly from nature. Certified organic by the USDA or international equivalent.
- Certified Organic Wick: purely organic cotton and organic linen, unbleached, coated with organic wax. No metal cores or surprise wick treatments. Certified organic by the Organic Content Standard to their highest degree (OCS 100).
- Third-Party Accountability: we believe greenwashing ends where independent auditing begins. Every component in our studio is documented, certified organic, and held to strict non-GMO agricultural standards.
